See the States: Nashville, Tennessee

Located on the Cumberland River in northern Tennessee, Nashville is “the Athens of the South,” known primarily for being one of the major music hubs of the country. The city became the de facto home of country music in the 20th century, although today you can find music of all kinds within the city limits. If you’re interested in discovering “Music City,” reserve a charter bus and check out these distinctly Nashville activities.

Third Man Records: Jack White has called almost of all of the U.S.’ music centers his home. He was born in Detroit, broke out in Austin, and now he’s set up a new base in Nashville with his independent label Third Man Records. If you’re in the city, make sure to check out the Third Man store where you can pick up some musical rarities, record yourself onto a vinyl record and, possibly, even see a great show while you’re there.

The Basement: Catch a glimpse of modern Nashville’s music scene in the Basement. Located beneath Grimey’s Records, you can see folk and alt-rock acts for cheap in this intimate music institution.

Prince’s Hot Chicken/Elliston Place Soda Shop: You would be remiss to visit Nashville and not make a quick stop at Prince’s Hot Chicken, the (literally) world famous, mouth-scorchingly hot cayenne-rubbed fried chicken eatery. Then cool down by hitting Elliston Place Soda Shop, a 1930's pharmacy that remains wonderfully unchanged by subsequent decades.
