Best Museums (Outside New York): Part I

In New York, we’re spoiled with the extraordinary quantity, variety and quality of our museums. There are hundreds of museums in the city, covering everything from art to history, science and even New York itself. There’s even a section of Fifth Avenue that has so many museums, it’s called Museum Mile!

But despite our wealth of museums, there are a number of great museums to be found outside the five boroughs. Here’s just a couple you can check out with a  charter bus museum tour.

Art Institute of Chicago: Located in Chicago’s Grant Park, this art museum includes works from ancient civilizations, the European renaissance and contemporary architecture in design. It’s most well known, however, for its collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, including pieces by Claude Monet, Pierre-August Renoir, Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse.

Detroit Institute of Art: One of the best and largest collections of art in the country can be found at this museum, which features art from all over the world and all eras of recorded history. Everything from ancient Egyptian sculpture to Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and other Modernist masters can be found here. Also make sure to check out the epic, beautiful courtyard mural by Diego Rivera, which takes a critical, communist eye to the unchecked capitalism of Detroit’s auto industry.
